Time Square shooting: Gunman is on the loose after firing at a woman

New York City police are on a manhunt for a loose gunman who shot and injured a tourist in Time Square, Manhattan, New York. Everything occurred at around 7 p.m. when three men entered a clothing and sneaker store known as “JD Sports” Thursday night.

Immediately the men started shoplifting items on the second floor of the department store only to be stopped by a female security guard who succeeded in having the thieves relinquish the stolen items. One of the perpetrators, who happened to have a gun, attempted to shoot at the security guard only to miss and accidently shoot a 38-year-old Brazilian tourist visiting New York, according to the police.

The injured woman was shot above her left-knee but luckily survived, and was shortly hospitalized as well as discharged. The gunman ran outside, and proceeded to shoot at a pursuing officer to no avail. He disposed of his shoes along with his jacket, and escaped to a nearby subway station where he reportedly ran onto the tracks, according to police and ABC News.

The gunman was additionally and further identified as a Hispanic teenage male, of Colombian decent who stands at about 5’7 ft tall. The young man was wearing all white the night of the incident.

“An attack on a cop is an attack on all of us! This coward shot at a hard working, innocent New Yorker and then opened fire on one of our officers. Those cops did what we all expect them to do— they went toward the danger. This individual continues to pose a danger and must be caught immediately. Help us protect all New Yorkers by bringing him to justice,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry tweeted.
