It’s National Mario Day and today we celebrate the iconic character yet again as he has appeared in one of the most popular gaming franchises for over the past 40 years. Through several different installments and spinoffs, Super Mario has been a highly entertaining game across several genres including party games, RPGs, racing games, and many more. Out of our appreciation for the Super Mario Franchise, today I will be ranking the Top 5 Mario Kart Wii tracks that every gamer remembers.
Ranked at number 5, Mushroom Gorge is one of the most entertaining tracks for players.. What makes the track so cool is that players can interact with the mushrooms by bouncing on top in order to progress through the stage. There is also a neat shortcut where players can use a short path led by mushrooms to get to the other end of the track as opposed to taking the normal straightaway that most drivers take. The stage has brilliant visuals, and its mechanics make it a really fun track to compete in.
Koopa Cape finds itself at number 4 on the list as the Koopa-Troopa-inspired track is incredibly intense while also being an incredible sight to see. During this stage, racers are carried through the track by water and it has a ramp where players can perform tricks. Players can travel through the infamous pipe tunnels that have been a popular component of the Mario Series for years. The track is not a super difficult one to navigate, and its beautiful scenery makes it a very fun stage to participate in.
Rainbow Road lies at number 3 as it is probably one of the most unique and popular tracks of the Mario Kart series. The stage is known for being one of the most difficult as it has no barriers to block racers from falling off of the edge. Adding speed boosts to the track seems almost criminal, but nothing takes away from the galactic beauty that the track possesses. The music sounds absolutely ethereal, and the chaos that the track brings make it a highly popular one to remember.
While it was difficult, I had to put DK Summit as number 2 on the list. DK Summit possesses a beauty in so many different components from the stage’s graphics to the interactable snowboarder obstacles all the way to the cannon that shoots players from one end of the stage to the other. The snow looks absolutely magnificent—even though the offroad can be an absolute pain to racers—and the stage has a shortcut that highly experienced players can use to their advantage. The track’s aesthetic and mechanics make it an incredibly iconic part of the game and contribute to its high ranking on the list.
Saving the best for life, I couldn’t go with any track other than Coconut Mall. This track practically spells out “chaos” in big letters as racers are closed in one another during so many different parts of the race. From the fast-paced music that creates anxiety for gamers to the mall shoppers pulling out of the parking lot and whacking racers, this stage is hands-down the best race of the entire game. There are several shortcuts that can be accessed during the stage, and the huge ramp that transports racers from the mall to the parking lot is always a fun part of the track to drive on. Coconut mall has the most iconic soundtrack of the series, and all of the cool features that the track has to offer make it the most memorable track of all time.
