Tron: Ares Releases with a Mediocre Response

“Tron: Ares”, the newest installment in the Tron series, has been met at the theaters with a lukewarm response from audiences. At the box office, “Tron: Ares” earned a total of $33.5 million during its opening weekend, a fraction of the $180 million it took to produce the film, which doesn’t include the cost of marketing.

“Tron: Ares” is the third movie of three in the Tron universe, with the movie following Ares as he navigates the human world, being the first AI being to interact with humans. As reviews have come out, the response has been less than stellar. Many have said the plot of the movie is a bland story with interesting visuals, but nothing new compared to the previous installments, which were more than a decade ago.

The movie also suffered from controversy, with its decision to have Jared Leto be the lead for the film. Jared Leto has been a risky actor to have due to his list of sexual abuse allegations and his track record of box office failures he has participated in.

“Tron: Ares” has been criticized as being nothing more than a filler movie with a cookie-cutter plot. This uninspired plot has resulted in a 57% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, showing that audience reception was nothing special. The movie is serviceable to a general audience with an excellent soundtrack and the signature Tron visuals, but the story brings little life to the running Tron story.

Overall, “Tron: Ares” is currently a flop at the box office, having still not made back the staggering $180 million that went into its creation. The movie itself is an excellent time-waster thriller film, but nothing to write home about. Hopefully, for the creators, they will be able to make their money back when the movie releases in the Chinese market.
