Trump Holds Meeting to Discuss Venezuela

Over the past few months, tensions have been growing between the United States of America and Venezuela after the United States began destroying ships allegedly smuggling drugs into the country. In response to the rising tension, President Donald Trump plans to hold a meeting today at the White House to discuss the next steps for addressing Venezuela.

In these past few months, the United States has been amassing over a dozen warships in the Caribbean as part of a military action the Pentagon has revealed to be called ‘Operation Southern Spear. Onboard these vessels and stationed in bases across the region are over 15,000 US soldiers who are on standby. It seems that the United States is preparing to take more drastic actions to remove the alleged drug trafficking from the area.

Regarding the meeting, the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and many other key members of Trump’s Cabinet are expected to be in attendance. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 5 pm EST in the Oval Office of the White House.

With all of the military buildup in the region, the President making public statements for airlines to avoid Venezuelan airspace, and the President declaring Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his government a terrorist organization, many believe the United States is preparing for an invasion of Venezuela.

Hopefully, the situation in the region can be resolved before an armed conflict breaks out and hundreds, if not thousands, of lives are lost over the conflict.
