Trump Plans to Serve Three Terms

Trump’s administration has mostly been a divisive topic for a nation that either loves him or despises him. Many presidents before him were never given the chance to be reelected for a third term, but it seems that the current president won’t let that stop him.

Many times, he has mentioned the idea to reporters during interviews and he is earnest about serving three terms as president. The constitution itself prohibits this in the 22nd Amendment, but Trump has spoken about a loophole that he could potentially exploit. Since it is never explicitly said that nonconsecutive terms count according to the amendment, the Republican Party could rule to change the Constitution for this instance. This will essentially change the rules enough for Trump to technically run again without compromising the Constitution.

Of course, this notion does not sit well with the Democratic Party, who are trying to deny this loophole from being used. If this pans out well for Trump, he will be the second president in history to serve for three terms. Currently, Franklin D. Roosevelt is the only president to have successfully done so after his victory against Republican nominee Wendell Willkie in 1940. President Trump will likely have a harder time to become reelected due to his controversial policies and abrasive personality. The chances of him serving three terms will be dependent on how his second term pans out in the next few years to come. For all we know, it may become a new reality for future presidents to serve three times.
