Trump Threatens BBC with $1 Billion Lawsuit Over a Controversial Edit

In a documentary produced and released by the BBC covering the event on January 6, there was a controversial edit included in the final cut that has many claiming that the BBC altered a speech by Donald Trump to make him directly call for violence.

The edit spliced two different parts of Donald Trump’s speech that were over 50 minutes apart from each other, which resulted in a statement that made it look as if he was directly calling for violence. The edited speech made it sound as if Trump said for the people to walk to the Capitol and “fight like hell”.

After the backlash that came when the edit was discovered and after a memo was leaked to the public regarding the situation, both BBC director general Tim Davie and CEO of news Deborah Turness decided to resign this last Sunday.

Trump came out and provided a statement regarding the situation on Truth Social: “The TOP people in the BBC, including TIM DAVIE, the BOSS, are all quitting/FIRED, because they were caught ‘doctoring’ my very good (PERFECT!) speech of January 6th,” he continues,  “Thank you to The Telegraph for exposing these Corrupt ‘Journalists.’ These are very dishonest people who tried to step on the scales of a Presidential Election. On top of everything else, they are from a Foreign Country, one that many consider our Number One Ally. What a terrible thing for Democracy!”

The President has made a statement threatening to sue the BBC for the defamatory edit of him in the documentary, but as of the writing of this article, there has been no word regarding whether he will take further action.
