Trump has met with several world leaders as well as Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky last Monday, a few days after Trump’s summit with Putin in Alaska last week and has come to an agreement to work towards a meeting with both Putin and Zelensky, as CNN states, “One of the key outcomes was an agreement for the 30 countries dubbed the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ to work on security guarantees for Ukraine and begin coordinated efforts with the US” and that “The second development was an agreement to pursue a bilateral meeting between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.”
As the week continued since Monday, Trump has still been making efforts to push a meeting between Putin and Zelinsky in the hopes of reaching an agreement, however the possible outcomes don’t appear to be optimistic. According to BBC, “Trump admitted the conflict was ‘a tough one’ to solve and conceded it was possible the Russian president was not interested in ending hostilities. ‘We’re going to find out about President Putin in the next couple of weeks,’ he said on Tuesday. ‘It’s possible that he doesn’t want to make a deal.”’ Trump had also ominously warned that there would be a “rough situation,” that Putin would be facing if he indeed refuses to end the war, however, no elaboration was given.
As of now, it seems Trump is still pulling at straws to gain any footing towards progress in ending hostilities between Ukraine and Russia, however as long as Putin refuses to budge, it may turn out to be a fruitless venture.
