Trump’s Efforts for Federal Crime Crackdown in NYC and Other Cities

Donald Trump seems to be moving forward with his plans and ambitions to place law enforcement under federal and military watch within cities such as New York City and Chicago. According to The Guardian, “The US president talked to reporters in the Oval Office and said: ‘When ready, we will start in Chicago … Chicago is a mess.’ He added that then the administration ‘will help with New York’, amid the controversial and aggressive federal efforts to control leading Democratic-voting cities.”

The Trump administration has already made efforts to deploy and escalate federal control with militarized troops within the capital, Washington DC as it prepares to further militarize federal control in other cities as well. Trump’s reasoning for doing this, according to himself as well as the Trump administration, is that there needs to be more tight security in places that are considered “lawless” and “out of control.” According to CNN, Boston Mayor, Michelle Wu has spoken out, saying “Stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures” and that “Unlike the Trump administration, Boston follows the law.”

This feels like a major, controlling, breach of rights that is using the guise of an attempt to uphold the law. It’s hard to see what is going on and not feel that the main idea behind the federal involvement and militarization of law enforcement within major cities as a controlling and rather authoritative maneuver for power rather than security and safety of the people. Whether how serious this gets or if this is merely the extent of Trump’s intentions or not remains to be seen.
