President Donald Trump announced on June 23, 2025 at 6:04 PM that he has gotten Israel and Iran to agree to a ceasefire. “There will be a complete and total ceasefire (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours,” says Trump. “Iran will start the ceasefire and upon the 12th hour, Israel will start the ceasefire and upon the 24th hour, an official end to the 12-day war.”
However, the legitimacy of this claim was rocky, as there was no official confirmation of the ceasefire by either Iran or Israel for a lengthy amount of time. According to social media, Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, outright denied any agreement on Trump’s ceasefire, stating that “as of now, there is no ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,” leaving many to speculate on the legitimacy of Trump’s claims.
Hours later, the supposed ceasefire was off to a shaky start, with both Iran and Israel refusing to cease war efforts. According to The Guardian, “Israeli reports said two missiles had been intercepted. Iran denied launching missiles after the ceasefire but Israel’s defense minister, Israel Katz, said he had ordered immediate retaliation on Tehran.”
According to CNN, Trump has expressed his frustrations with both Iran and Israel and their violations, with him saying that “I’m not happy with Israel. You know, when I say, ‘Ok now you have 12 hours,’ you don’t go out to the first hour, just drop everything you have on, so I’m not happy with them. I’m not happy with Iran either.”
