Video Game Movies are Doing Great and Here’s Why

In recent years, there has been a large increase in movies inspired by or based on preexisting video games. Although there have been some duds here and there, most of these movies have turned out well, with their efforts being rewarded with stunning box office reports and appraisals. This success has undoubtedly piqued the interest of many studios eager to throw their hat into the ring.

It is baffling to see this kind of direction, considering that during the 90s and early 2000s, Video game Adaptations were generally considered bad. While that is true in most cases, I think there is another reason for the current turnaround video game movies have in the public image. For the longest time, video games have been stuck with an unwelcoming stigma of being a child-centered pastime. The movie standards were likely inexistent for producers and studios that only thought children would be watching.

This stigma has mostly disappeared in the eyes of the public, with most of them having spent their time in front of the TV playing these games, and now they get the chance to reignite their childhoods at the theatre. Since then, making adaptations that are truthful to the source material and overall quality control have been filmmakers’ priority to ensure that all ages enjoy the film. Video games are another treasure trove of creative ideas and good storytelling, which is why the potential for future adaptations looks bright.
