The video game “Hytale,” that has been in production for ten years and received high amounts of anticipation when announced, has recently been confirmed to have cancelled development after a full decade of work with a recent announcement from Hypixel studios, on their official website, stating that “we’re ending development on ‘Hytale’ and beginning the process of winding down Hypixel Studios over the next few months.”
“Hytale,” was in development, starting in 2015, by Hypixel studios, a team established by a successful “Minecraft,” server known as “Hypixel.” Fast forward a few years later and “Minecraft,” was at an all-time low. Many people have lost interest in the game and were looking for something new. In came the official announcement of “Hytale,” in 2018, with a trailer showcasing an all new survival, roleplay and adventure game similar to “Minecraft,” with many people left ecstatic by the games announcement. It was the perfect opportunity to announce their project with a wide audience of players in anticipation of their game. A demo of the game was available at the 2019 Game Developers Conference and a release date was set for 2021. So where did it go wrong?
Hypixel studios were eventually bought out by Riot Games on April 16, 2020 and with time, the cracks started to show. According to the official website, “Over time, as our vision evolved and the genre matured around us, the bar kept rising. Our technical ambitions grew more complex and even after a major reboot of the game engine, the team found that Hytale still wasn’t as far along as it needed to be. It became clear we’d need a lot more time to get it to a place where it could support the ambitious vision for the game.” This news is greatly disappointing for many fans who had been anticipating a full release of the game, especially with so few video game competitors existing for the game “Minecraft.” It is also painful and unfortunate to see a full decade of passionate work end up being for naught.
