Warner Music Group Expands Into India

Warner Music Group is expanding its global technology operations in India with a new technology hub in Bengaluru, strengthening the company’s focus on artificial intelligence, engineering, data infrastructure and digital products. The facility is expected to officially open next month and will support technology systems used across Warner Music Group’s global music operations.

The new hub will focus on several areas of technology, including music distribution, data infrastructure and audience and marketing data products. The company also plans to develop engineering projects using artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies as it expands its digital capabilities.

Mahesh Rao, Warner Music Group’s director of software engineering and site lead for India, is leading the expansion. Rao will oversee the company’s engineering strategy, organizational structure, budgets and operations in India. Before joining Warner Music Group, he worked at Walmart Global Tech, where he led software development projects.

The expansion builds on a technology team that Warner Music Group has already established in India during the past year. The company is currently recruiting for positions across multiple technology fields as it grows its engineering operations in Bengaluru. Rao said the company is looking for engineers and innovators who want to contribute to the future of the global music industry.

Warner Music Group Chief Technology Officer Leho Nigul said Bengaluru will play an important role in the company’s overall engineering strategy. The company plans to invest in local leadership and modern technology while attracting engineers who can work on large-scale systems connecting music and artificial intelligence.

The decision to expand in Bengaluru also reflects Warner Music Group’s broader investment in India. The company established its Indian operations six years ago and is headquartered in Mumbai. Since then, it has expanded its presence throughout the country’s creative and business industries.

Jay Mehta, managing director of Warner Music India, said the company sees opportunities in both India’s creative community and its technology workforce. The Bengaluru hub will allow Warner Music Group to combine those areas by developing technology that can support its worldwide music business.

The expansion shows how technology is becoming increasingly important to the modern music industry. Music companies are no longer focused only on recording and distributing songs; they also rely on data, digital platforms and artificial intelligence to reach audiences and manage music on a global scale.

With Bengaluru becoming part of Warner Music Group’s international technology operations, India is positioned to play a larger role in the company’s digital future. The new hub could create opportunities for technology professionals while helping Warner Music Group develop the tools and systems needed to keep up with a rapidly changing music industry.
