Halloween has come once again and with the holiday being so popular, there are so many ways to celebrate. One of the most popular ways to celebrate is with music; however, with so many good picks to choose from, it’s hard to decide what’s the best.
There are, of course, the classic songs such as “Monster Mash,” by Bobby Pickett from 1962, which draws inspiration and reference to many classic horror figures such as “Dracula,” “Frankenstein’s Monster,” “The Invisible Man, “The Wolfman,” and so on. Another classic that people often play is “Thriller,” by Michael Jackson in 1983 and depicts Jackson dancing with a horde of the undead. This song has gone down as a Halloween classic and has been referenced in a wide array of various media.
Soundtracks from various horror films are also often a great way to set the mood for Halloween, such as “Halloween,” by John Carpenter with the theme of Micheal Myers being one of the most iconic horror music tracks ever made. The constant fast-paced piano makes for a great horror atmosphere. “The Shining,” by Stanley Kubrick which not only has a highly tonal and haunting soundtrack but is also a very influential film in general with many other films drawing great inspiration from it.
There’s also a wide array of other genres of music that have a good selection of music to choose from such as rock, electrical, classical and so on. Music with pipe organs tends to be especially good for creating a truly haunting atmosphere.
