Whats to come in Godzilla x Kong Supernova

The Monsterverse, a cinematic universe about the renowned monsters Godzilla and King Kong, has been going for 11 years since Gareth Edwards’ “Godzilla” was released in 2014. Fast-forward to the present, and it’s about ready to stomp its way into its sixth entry, “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova,” set to be directed by Grant Sputore set to release March 26, 2027. The question is, what does it mean for the future of the Monsterverse?

Its recently revealed title does confirm that both titular monsters will feature in this film, which makes this the third film in the series to feature both Godzilla and Kong and the prior two films, “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” could act as relatively safe examples of what the next film will be like. However, is that for the best? What made “Godzilla vs. Kong” successful is the buildup by the three prior movies, “Godzilla,” “Kong: Skull Island,” and “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” This slow tease made their clash special and felt like an event. But fast-forward to now, with yet another film where the two monsters meet, the question remains: when does it get old? The team-ups worked well for them so far, but after “Supernova,” it may be best for future films to branch out.

As for the film itself, fans have been getting excited about what this next film may entail, and judging by the film’s title, one monster has been in the minds of fans as the next possible villain: Space Godzilla. The prior film featured an evil Kong named Skar King as its main threat for Godzilla and Kong to face off against, so it makes sense that the next film would do the same for Godzilla and Space Godzilla fits the bill well, which featured in the 1994 film “Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla,” and fans feel that its space theme points to him as being the next villain. Whether this comes to pass or not, “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova” stands to be an important film for the future of the Monsterverse.
