Why Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein Will Be a Piece Worth Watching

As someone that doesn’t like surprises, I am occasionally thrilled when one coveted reveal does catch me off guard. Such as the return of Guillermo Del Toro, whose last project was “Pinocchio”(2022).

However, this year will host the next release of the acclaimed director. A film that is an adaptation of a classic horror tale.

Through the ups and downs of creation, Guillermo Del Toro’s “Frankenstein” is set to release in the United States on October 17. That date will also be the start of a limited theatrical run before it heads to Netflix on November 7. Interestingly enough, the selected venues will be on IMAX.

Which makes sense considering both “Frankenstein’s” monster and IMAX are both known to be loud and big. So, the spirit of the original novel will be felt in a new, immersive way.

Guillermo del Toro mentioned that “Frankenstein” will be a tale adaptation of forgiveness and imperfection. Fitting, considering that the Mexican has a long history of exploring the beauty and horror of existence. “Pacific Rim”, “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “Hellboy” are films from his catalogue that delve into these themes.

Judging from the trailer, it appears to have a blend of gothic and sci-fi undertones. All in 1800s European fashion. Prepare to see a whole bunch of dramatic, romanticism-esque tragedy to be in the film.

An interesting cast of interesting actors. With Jacob Elordi (“Euphoria”, “Saltburn”)  as the iconic creature, Mia Goth (“Pearl”, “X”) as Frankenstein’s love interest Elizabeth Lavenza, and Oscar Issac (“Moon Knight”) as the mad scientist Victor Frankenstein. The direction appears to be more focused on interpretation and feeling rather than forced dramatics. A good aspect to have for a movie of Guillermo Del Toro’s caliber.

Make sure to check out “Frankenstein” when it comes to theaters and Netflix in Autumn. It’s bound to be a film worth having your eyes glued to the screen.
