There is a huge matchup in college football taking place this weekend between the #3 Texas Longhorns and the defending National Champion #10 Michigan Wolverines. Although many believe this game is going to be a tight battle to the finish and the sportsbooks have Texas favorites by just 7, I think this game is going to be a blowout from start to finish.
Michigan lost a ton of talent to the NFL Draft this past spring. Most notably they lost their QB JJ McCarthy who is now with the Minnesota Vikings. This left them with two options, Junior Alex Orji and Senior Davis Warren. At the same time, Orji is an athletic freak but does not have experience in playing the position. Warren started Michigan’s game against Fresno State while Orji served as a “change of pace” and scored a touchdown.
As for Texas’ offense, they return Quinn Ewers who is believed to be a top draft pick in the upcoming draft, and a plethora of linemen who now have three-plus years of experience. In addition, they brought in a pair of Alabama transfers who can make big plays in Isaiah Bond and Amari Niblack. Although the game will be played in Ann Arbor and the crowd will be rowdy, I think that this Texas team is truly built for greatness.
Michigan is more of a rebuilding team, and they do not recruit at the levels of Texas, Alabama, Georgia, etc. What they do well is develop the talent that they bring in. This team reminds me a lot of the early Jim Harbaugh Michigan teams which became great teams over time, but it still feels a little too early for me.
In terms of this game, the playmakers for Texas are just going to be too much for a weak Wolverines secondary to handle. I see Texas putting up a lot of points and although he is talented, I just can’t see Warren going TD for TD with one of the best in the country. Michigan may score a touchdown or two but I also feel as if the Longhorns defense will come hungry and try to make a statement in enemy territory. Overall, I see a route in favor of the Longhorns by the score of Texas: 41 Michigan: 16.
