Why ‘Thriller’ is the best album ever (Op-Ed)

“Thriller”, was released November 29, 1982, and is widely recognized as on of if not the best albums ever. There are countless reasons for this, but for me it comes down to the versatility of the record that makes it the greatest.

Since its release, the album has sold over 70 million copies making it the most of any album in history. This is because this album isn’t just one genre. It is a beautiful melody of rock, pop, R&B, and funk music. “Thriller” can fill all the needs of it’s listeners and has some phenomenal features. The two most notable of them being Paul McCartney and Eddie Van Halen.

At the time of its release, it was something people had never seen before. The record was not only innovative in a music sense but in its production and music videos as well. Even featuring a 14-minute short film that changed the way music videos worked forever. The “Thriller” video had wild choreography and special effects and it quickly became a cultural sensation.

This wasn’t even the only way that “Thriller” changed the game. During the Grammy’s in 1984 it broke the record with eight Awards. This legendary album stands alone as the greatest album of all time because of its commercial success, innovative blend of genres, new style of production, and overall influence on not just music but the entire pop culture landscape. It is a true masterpiece and a timeless classic.
