Willie Mays was one of the most influential black baseball players in the industry. Born in Westfield, Alabama, Mays got his start with the Negro League team the Black Barons all throughout highschool. In 1950, Mays made his professional debut with San Francisco Giants in and wine the Rookie of the Year Award the following year. 1951 Mays was drafted to the Korean War and spent his time Fort Eustis in Virginia until 1954.
Mays stayed with the Giants until 1972 when he joined the Ney York Mets for a year. Over the course of his career Mays made over 660 home runs and stole 339 bases. Mays also racked up a number of awards including being a two time NL MVP, awarded the Golf Glove Award 12 times and named the NL Batting Champion and more.
