‘Woolly Mice’ Creation Sparks Interest in Reviving Extinct Species

Many kinds of species have been lost to us over the many centuries that we have noticed their remains. With only fossils and bones of what once was, we have been only able to picture what they looked like, sounded like, etc. However, thanks to the efforts of science, we may have a chance to bring back life that was long thought to be extinct forever.

A few weeks ago, a bioscience company based in Texas managed to genetically alter mice to have characteristics like the woolly mammoth, which has been extinct for thousands of years. With this creation, scientists are convinced that they will soon figure out a way to bring these hulking giants back from extinction. This has caused a lot of debate for many people who are undecided about whether or not something like this should be done.

On the one hand, the return of such animals would be a revolutionary feat for humanity. There are many kinds of animals we could bring back, which would help us get better insight into them and how they could be useful in today’s world. It could also be the key to making sure that endangered animals that we have now don’t become extinct in the future.

On the other hand, it is unsure how these creatures could adapt to being brought back to a world that no longer suits them. They could potentially become an invasive species since most animals would not know how to deal with them. If we control their environment, it might levitate any potential damage that these species could have to the animal kingdom. Overall, it depends on us to determine if we are ready for a world with mammoths and saber-tooth tigers or if these animals should remain extinct.
