3 Candidates for Offensive Rookie of the Year (Op-Ed)

The NFL season is mere days away, meaning hundreds of rookies will be making their pro debuts this weekend. A select few of them have the opportunity to contribute right away and quickly make a name for themselves. The NFL Draft’s first round was full of offensive talent, so let’s take a look at three of the possible contenders for OROY.

  • Caleb Williams, Bears QB

Williams may have been drafted into the best situation ever for a number one overall pick. He has two thousand-yard receivers from last year Keenan Allen and DJ Moore, as well as a receiver who had 1,400 yards in college last season, Rome Odunze. Not to mention the fact that Chicago signed D’Andre Swift and bolstered their offensive line in the offseason. Putting Williams, who very well could be the best prospect to ever come out of college into this offense could mean great things for Chicago. And winning in Chicago as a QB gets you hardware.

  • Malik Nabers, Giants WR

Drafted sixth by the Giants, Malik Nabers will be the best receiver the Giants have had since they traded Odell Beckham Jr. back in 2019. Like Beckham, Nabers comes from the long line of star LSU wideouts and should be the next to break out. For LSU in 2023, Nabers exploded for 1,546 receiving yards and 14 touchdown receptions. He will be the clear number one in New York and has already shown flashes of what he can do in the preseason. The only question will be how often Daniel Jones can get him the football.

  • Xavier Worthy, Chiefs WR

Kansas City traded up on draft night to draft Texas Longhorn receiver Xavier Worthy. Worthy was the quickest man in college football last season and proved it at the combine where he set the record for fastest 40-yard dash ever, running an official time of 4.21 seconds. Worthy reminds me a lot of another fast wide receiver and could be in line to replace some of that speed on the outside the Chiefs have missed since his departure. We’ve already seen him running streaks down the sideline in the preseason and his speed will translate into the NFL. With Andy Reid calling plays and Mahomes throwing him the pigskin, I foresee Worthy having a massive rookie season.
