3 choices to play the DCU’s Batman (Op-Ed)

James Gunn has taken over things at DC Studios as he attempts to create a cinematic universe similar to that of Marvel. Gunn announced yesterday that the filming had wrapped on his newest Superman movie starring David Corenswet. With this “Superman” finishing its filming, it is time to think about who else will be cast as the rest of the Justice League. Most notably still uncast is Batman. While Robert Pattinson took over this role in 2022’s “The Batman director Matt Reeves has made it clear that this Batman is not involved in the same universe and will have its own story.” With that said, let’s look at some possible options to be Batman in the DCU.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Gyllenhaal’s recent performance in “Roadhouse” proved to audiences that he is a talented on-screen fighter. His performance in that movie showed a darker side of his acting abilities, which would be crucial in a Batman role. He auditioned for Batman in the early 2000s but was beaten out by Christian Bale.

Glen Powell

Glen Powell has become one of the biggest male stars in Hollywood over the past few years. With movies like “Twisters”, “Anyone but You”, and “Top Gun: Maverick”, it is clear that Powell can put butts in seats. In an interview with GQ, he said “I was always a Batman guy…I would have a wild take on Batman. It definitely would not be like a Matt Reeves tone – it’d probably be closer to Keaton.” Powell has said he is not interested in joining the MCU, but perhaps the DCU and Batman peak his interest a little more.

Jensen Ackles

Lastly, we have Jensen Ackles. The 46-year-old actor has had some recent success playing a superhero in Amazon Prime’s “The Boys”. I think his demeanor and seriousness are perfect for playing the character. Plus, he has played Batman before in DC’s animated Tomorrowverse timeline. He voiced Batman in a few movies and has the tone down. On top of all that when asked if he would be interested in playing the hero in live-action he answered, “Sign me up” and added that Batman is his “favorite superhero of all time”. This one feels right and has my vote to be the next Bruce Wayne.
