Reese Witherspoon has made millions off of her book club called Reese’s Book Club. Each month Reese chooses a book to highlight for her members. Clients can buy boxes from the company that contains books based on the box’s title; The Self-Care Box, The Romance Box, The Thriller Box, etc.
In exchange for Reese’s Book Club including a book in their club, in other words, buying millions of copies of the books, the company purchases the rights to turn the books into films. Reese’s production company Hello Sunshine then sells those rights to different streaming services like Amazon prime, Netflix, Apple TV, and Hulu.
Since the creation of this genius strategy, Reese Witherspoon sold her production company Hello Sunshine for 900 million dollars. A media company backed by a private equity firm called Blackstone Group Inc bought the company from the actress.
Despite the sale, Witherspoon has made it clear she will still be heavily involved in the company. Both Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine’s CEO will join the board of the company to oversee day-to-day operations.
“Today marks a tremendous moment for Hello Sunshine,” Witherspoon said in a statement. “I started this company to change the way all women are seen in the media. Over the past few years, we have watched our mission thrive through books, TV, film, and social platforms. Today, we’re taking a huge step forward by partnering with Blackstone, which will enable us to tell even more entertaining, impactful, and illuminating stories about women’s lives globally.”
The company’s success doesn’t end there. Recently, one of the TV shows the company produced, The Morning Show, won multiple Emmys.
