Former Gov of NY assaulted in Manhattan

Friday night on the Upper East Side, two young boys were arrested for an attack on former New York Governor David Paterson. According to reports, five unidentified people began an altercation with Paterson and his 20-year-old stepson, Anthony Chester Sliwa.

Just two of the kids were arrested, ages 12 and 13, and they were charged with second-degree gang assault and third-degree gang assault respectively. Sean Darcy, a spokesman for Paterson, says the kids, alongside their parents, turned themselves in. Their names have not been released due to their age.

Darcy went on to say, “Governor Paterson and his family are glad to see the suspects turned themselves in…we hope that the young people involved learn something from this unfortunate encounter. The Governor’s only request is that people refrain from attempting to use an unfortunate act of violence for their own personal or political gain. He and his wife, Mary, are thankful for the quick response time from the police and the outpouring of support they have received from people across all spectrums.”

Both Paterson and Sliwa were taken to a local hospital.70-year-old Paterson was slightly injured from punches to the face and shoulder, while his stepson needed stitches on his lip from being struck and falling to the ground.

The New York Police Department has requested assistance from anyone able to identify the five suspects yet to be identified.
