10 Shot Outside Queens Nightclub

Late at night on Wednesday, January one, 2025, an estimated three to four gunmen opened fire on 114th Street outside Amazura, a popular Queens nightclub. Ten people were struck in the crossfire, though in a statement on Thursday morning, police have confirmed they are all in stable condition and expected to survive.

The violence outside the nightclub came on the heels of another gun-related tragedy. On the second level of the venue, 90 people were gathered to celebrate the life of a 16-year-old who had recently been shot to death. Police have yet to identify whether the shooting outside the venue was related to that of the teen.

When the violence occurred, Amazura was at capacity, with 15 people waiting outside for entry. The suspects, estimated to be in their late teens or early 20s, calmly walked up to the line waiting to get in, then opened fire. They managed to fire off 30 shots before fleeing the scene. The suspects are still at large.

The shooting in New York was just one of several violent events occurring across the country on New Year’s Day. In New Orleans, 15 people were killed when a man drove a truck into a celebration on Bourbon Street. In Las Vegas, one man is dead following an explosion in a cyber truck outside Trump Tower.

“There’s zero tolerance for these senseless shootings,” NYPD Chief of Transportation Philip Rivera said in a press conference regarding the Queens shooting on Thursday, January 2. “These horrible acts of violence on our streets, and those responsible for this crime, will be apprehended and brought to justice.”
