Surfer With One Leg Inspires Athletes Everywhere

Riding the large waves of the world is a difficult undertaking for most people, but ‘Pegleg’ Bennett proves that such feats aren’t limited to physicality. This long-time surfer has just conquered notoriously monstrous waves all across the globe, while only having one leg.

Going by the nickname ‘Pegleg’, Bennett was born with a birth defect that resulted in his foot being amputated. Despite this, he has always been infatuated with the water, progressing from swimming in the ocean to wanting to ride the waves as a surfer. His passionate pleas with the National Health Service eventually paid off with them providing a prosthetic leg designed for surfing. A few alterations later, he is already well on his way to making his surfing dreams come true.

Ever since he has made it a personal goal to surf the coasts of every major country on Earth. His journeys have led him to surf in Hawaii, Japan, Indonesia, the Arctic Circle, and much more. No waves have been too big for Bennett to defeat. His admirable passion for the sport has inspired many people like him to take to the waves and compete in competitions for anyone with disabilities. He even trains beginners as their coach and helps them work for their own dreams.

His story has been a boon of inspiration for surfers and athletes everywhere. His achievements with surfing can apply to any sort of sport or trade that might seem impossible. Sometimes, all it takes is a good mindset to go the distance.
