“Rivals,” is a show being filmed for Disney+ and just recently, an actor was arrested on set while filming. “Rivals,” is a period drama set in 1986 and an adaptation of the 1988 novel “Rivals,” by Jilly Cooper. Actor Nigel Adams was on set in Berkeley Castle, Gloucestershire playing the supporting role of a polo match spectator when Police arrested him for assaulting a woman on May 31, 2025. Adams has since been released on conditional bail and is due for Bristol Crown Court on July 7, 2025.
The show’s production company, Happy Prince, had a representative speak out on the matter, stating that “On June 4, the police visited the set regarding an unrelated matter involving a supporting artist” and “Production co-operated with the police. We do not have any further information as it is not connected to Rivals or to our production.” Until more information is released, it seems both the filmmakers as well as the general public will be left in the dark on the matter until Adams is due for attending court on July 7, 2025.
It’s apparent the arrest isn’t having a major effect on the progress of the television project itself to a major extent, which is relatively good news for the show’s viewers. The show does receive praise for things such as 80s nostalgia, its humor, dialogue, its methods in portrayal of the class system in Britain and many other qualities that viewers may find engaging, but some may find the show rather bland, stating that the show cuts a lot of the reasoning for the occurrences in the plot that made the book interesting in the first place.
