New York Needs to Push for More Environmental Health

Over the years, New York has passed many bills regarding the city’s health. These laws often help regulate gas emissions, air pollution, and other air-borne issues. While these efforts are a step in the right direction, they should also focus on the many different problems that the city faces when it comes to providing a clean and safe environment.

The abundance of trash that litter the streets is a big problem, as it can contribute to the disease and sickness that can spread through the city. There are talks about reducing waste through the Affordable Waste Reduction Act, but the act puts the responsibility on the producers instead of the consumers. Everyone needs to be held accountable for disposing of trash, not just the ones making the product. There needs to be more trash and recycling bins for the city to use to prevent more trash from being dumped on the sidewalks.

Another problem that needs to be addressed is the large presence of invasive species in both the city and the state. Most of these species are different kinds of plants and insects, which are terrestrially destructive and can be an issue for agriculture. Furthermore, many of these plants can often grow on structures, causing damage to buildings and power lines. The city’s residents must stay vigilant and report sightings of these species to diminish their spread.

The city has done a lot to reduce environmental damage, but it is far from over. The powers that be must stay on task and provide more measures to ensure that all living things (except invasive species) can live safely.
