The Problem with Marvel’s TV Shows

Marvel’s newest addition to the Disney+ streaming service is the show Ironheart, which has so far received mixed reviews from the audience. This has been a running trend with most of their shows as of late, only getting recognition when a show is slightly better than the ones that came before. Although these shows do have many issues that explain their decreased ratings, there is one problem that has dragged all of them down: There are too many of them.

This problem wasn’t apparent in 2021 when several promising shows were released on Disney+. While there were other shows that existed before that year, this batch was solely focused on the main group of superheroes that were in the Avengers series of movies. As the years passed, more and more shows were dropped on television, with seemingly less time and care being put into each one.

The increased output of shows has hurt their quality, which made it hard for people to stay interested. As a result, many of the shows have been skipped entirely and were only watched by hardcore fans. Aside from “Loki”, all the shows are either mediocre or simply terrible.

What Disney needs to do is slow down and focus on stories and characters that are interesting enough to warrant a show. Agatha Harkness and Echo are not characters that we need extensive knowledge of. Unless Disney decides to give these original characters their own films, they are only going to be ignored by the masses. Having one or two shows a year seems like a more reasonable amount to ensure that the shows can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their movie counterparts.
