It’s that time of year again when our country comes together to celebrate our independence through fireworks and good food. Of course, there are many ways to spend our time during the 4th of July, including turning off the lights and watching some movies. There are several films to choose from that are suitable for this holiday.
“The Patriot” is a film that first comes to mind for me. Released in 2000, the movie stars Mel Gibson as the protagonist. It follows a retired military man who joins the American Revolution after his son is captured by the British. The movie is action-packed and filled with compelling triumphs and harrowing defeats. It is a film that will surely get your patriotic blood pumping!
“Hamilton” is another excellent choice if you’re looking for a great musical. Filmed in front of a live audience for Disney+, the play goes over the story of Alexander Hamilton and his role in the founding of our nation. The musical has plenty of fun songs and great moments to keep your attention.
Lastly, for the fun of it, I recommend watching “National Treasure” if you have the chance. The film stars Nicolas Cage as a historian who must steal the Declaration of Independence to uncover lost treasure. This film has a pretty goofy plot, but what makes this film is a laid-back ride with many moments of comedy and engaging action. You simply can’t go wrong with Nicolas Cage, so give it a try if you haven’t seen it! Regardless of how you choose to celebrate, this holiday is a great time to remember our roots and recognize how far we have come as a country!
