For yours truly, I always felt the New York Mets were the little brother of the Yankees. Nowadays, I see that it’s 50% true but that’s the power of branding for you.
I, for one, must say that the Mets, from my recent perspective, have fun energy in the team and fanbase. This reflects the Mets organization’s standing as the sixth most valuable Major League Baseball team, estimated at $3.2 billion.
Not a sign of a struggling franchise at all. However, like most sports organizations, there have been periods of uncertainty and disappointment. Talented players drafted by the Mets, such as Pete Crow-Armstrong, now an All-Star with the Cubs, and Shane McClanahan but signed with the Rays and is now a two-time All-Star.
All those examples were missed opportunities. The Mets seem to still keep pushing on for 2025 and beyond. One can not forget about the success of draft picks between 2017 and 2018. Players such as David Peterson, Brett Baty, Mark Vientos and Tylor Megill have been consistent contributors to the Mets’ success.
The most intriguing draft prospect that seems to continue their keen selection is Mitch Voit. Touted as a two-way player, he was selected by the Mets at number 38. His hitting is definitely the most valuable trait but he has also proven that he can pitch.
Overall, the future of the New York Mets appears to be in good hands. If they can keep continuing their astute scouting reports… the sky’s the limit. And if things turn out well, the Mets might be able to potentially sniff a World Series Title. Three decades prior, but we’ll know what the future entails.
