American-Style Restaurants in Other Countries

The United States has always had a wide range of foods that are based on the cuisines found in countries around the world. Chinese, Indian, Mexican, and other foods have found their way to America one way or another and have expanded our horizons, even if the food is not always fully authentic. With so many options open to us, we sometimes forget that we have our original cuisines as well and that other countries have tried their hand at replicating what they think American food is.

Typically, these American-themed restaurants are based on classic depictions of American culture, like 1950s diners. Eddie Rockets in Ireland matches this style to a tee, with cushioned booths and neon signs to boot. The main dishes found in many of these places are often the stereotypical foods enjoyed across the country, like cheeseburgers, hot dogs, milkshakes, etc. Some restaurants, like Tim’s Texas BBQ in China, go for a more regional selection of style and food. This is due to cowboys being another classic depiction of American culture, with spurs on their boots and a love for brisket and grits!

Many of these places often sport a kind of love for these stereotypical styles, despite not being entirely accurate. I think that it’s neat that other countries have similar understandings of our food and how it’s tied to our culture. It’s much like how we do it with their food! While many things make us all similar, it’s also true that there are many differences as well, which makes it more special to see other people from different parts of the globe enjoy something that comes from home. Despite our differences, our love for food is something that brings everyone together.
