Living with stomach problems is a pain to deal with because everything you eat, unless you have eaten it before, makes you have the thought of “What if I get sick?” I personally have to keep a food diary to keep track of what I can eat and what will make me sick. And it’s a horrible feeling when you find out one of your favorite foods, chicken alfredo in my case, is something that will send you to the bathroom.
It’s all trial and error when you don’t know what will cause you to feel sick, and I have had times where I had to go to the hospital because I was afraid I was going to get dehydrated. I feel like I’m having a war with my stomach and I can’t win. Nobody should have to put a warning label on foods they love.
I have had countless battles with food, especially with beef and pork, and it is hard because you need protein to survive and stay healthy but you can’t stay healthy if what you eat might make you sick. I even get worried about taking medicine because if I am feeling sick, I feel like I might waste the medicine because the bad taste will upset my stomach.
I stick to foods that I know won’t trigger my gastro problems, safe foods such as mac and cheese or pizza but if I eat anything spicy or greasy like fried foods or anything fast food I just pray that I won’t end up regretting it. Foods like ice cream are also a risk for me.
When every meal comes with that warning label and fear, you have to be picky and choosey. Sometimes you are called childish or in my case I eat like a child. Safe foods are the only thing that makes food enjoyable and when you live with those problems you learn to appreciate simple meals like ramen or a sandwich. Eating should be enjoyable, not something you have to fear.
