Russia and Trump’s Frustration With Efforts for Ukraine-Russia Ceasefire

As we get further into Trump’s proposed time limit for Russia to enter a cease fire with Ukraine, Putin seems to show no signs of backing down as missiles continue to fire. As death tolls slowly rise from airstrikes, Trump seems to be growing frustrated, as according to Radio Free Europe Radio Library, “US President Donald Trump again displayed anger with Russia following its latest deadly attack on Kyiv — a strike that killed 31 people, including five children — calling the action ‘disgusting’ and vowing to slap new sanctions on Moscow.”

Trump seems to be in a rush to end the fighting as he set a new deadline for Aug 8, 2025. Despite the greatly shortened due date, Trump seems to have low confidence in how effective the time limit will be as according to ABC News, he stated that “we’re going to have to look and I’m going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him to lesser number, because I think I already know the answer what’s going to happen” and that “I’m going to make a new deadline of about 10 or 12 days from today.” It seems he’s convinced that Putin won’t budge on refusing to ceasefire with Ukraine and is hurrying along the date he set to start putting his proposed tariffs and sanctions in place on Moscow.

It comes into question however if economic pressure will really bring the war between Russia and Ukraine to a halt. It was ineffective before leading up to this point and it doesn’t look to be effective going forward, especially after it goes into effect. Trying to end needless conflict and death is commendable, but I fail to see Trump’s methods of doing so working.
