Airline Employees Face Suspension After Posts on Charlie Kirk Shooting Incident

Major U.S. airlines have suspended employees following social media posts about the deadly shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The posts, which appeared to mock or celebrate Kirk’s death, have gone viral and caused outrage online, encouraging fast disciplinary action from the airlines involved.

Delta Air Lines confirmed the suspension of several employees over the posts. In a memo to staff, CEO Ed Bastian said the comments “went well beyond healthy, respectful debate.” He added that the posts “stand in stark contrast to our values and our social media policy,” and confirmed that the suspensions are pending investigations.

American Airlines also took disciplinary action against several workers who made similar posts. In a public statement, the airline said that employees who used social media to “promote such violence” were “immediately removed from service.”

United Airlines joined the list of carriers to take action over the weekend. A memo sent to employees reminded them of the company’s code of conduct and social media expectations. The airline confirmed to CNN that workers have been suspended regarding these posts.

The controversy began just days after Kirk, 31, was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Police later arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is being charged with aggravated murder. Officials have not released a motive, but the attack has captured the attention of the world and caused major reactions online.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy weighed in, calling the posts “disgusting” and urged the airlines to take action. “Any company responsible for the safety of the traveling public cannot tolerate that behavior,” he said.

None of the airlines have specified how many employees were suspended. Internal reviews are ongoing, and the situation continues to evolve.
