The cult classic horror comedy film The Lost Boys is finally getting a Broadway musical adaptation. While the news was a surprise for some, the announcement has garnered excitement from the film’s dedicated fanbase, who are always eager for more content of their favorite film.
The Lost Boys’ musical adaptation is set to officially debut on April 26, 2026. It is being directed by two-time Tony Award winner Michael Arden, produced by James Carpinello, Marcus Chait, and Patrick Wilson Hoch.
The original film follows the story of two teenage brothers and their divorced mother moving into their grandfather’s house in a coastal town in northern California. The older brother, Michael, finds himself roped in with the shenanigans of a local rock band, who turn out to be a group of bloodthirsty vampires.
Musical adaptations of films are often debatable in quality. That said, when a production does it right, it can elevate the source material and reach new audiences that wouldn’t have normally watched the film.
Broadway is no stranger to horror musicals, with the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Beetlejuice, and The Phantom of the Opera being some of the most notable. The Lost Boys certainly has the potential to become a big hit with audiences, particularly amongst the younger generations.
The Outsiders, despite having a rather mundane setting compared to The Lost Boys, certainly made a name for itself in the theatre world and has maintained its spot as one of the most lucrative musicals on Broadway since its debut in 2023.
