This week, Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, made an announcement that he would be running for Congress in the upcoming election cycle. It seems running for political office is in the blood of the Kennedy family.
Jack Schlossberg announced his bid to run for Congress after the current holder of the seat, Representative Jerry Nadler, made a statement saying that he would not be seeking reelection.
He made the following statement in a video announcement: “I’m not running because I have all the answers to our problems,” he continues, “I’m running because the people of New York 12 do. I want to listen to your struggles, hear your stories, amplify your voice, go to Washington and execute on your behalf.”.
Schlossberg seems to be running in part to help be part of a larger Democratic plan to reject Donald Trump’s political efforts. One thing he has made a public statement regarding is preventing any options for a third term for Trump.
“We deserve better, and we can do better, and it starts with the Democratic Party winning back control of the House of Representatives,” he said in a statement. He continues, “With control of Congress, there’s nothing we can’t do. Without it, we’re helpless to a third term.”.
While Schlossberg might come from a long line of political family members, it is uncertain whether he will be able to win the race for the seat. For the seat, he will need to run against New York Assemblyman Micah Lasher, who already has many political connections in New York and was considered the heir apparent to Nadler.
Schlossberg seems to have an uphill battle waiting for him.
