On November 3rd, 2025, former Vice President Dick Cheney passed away at the age of 84. The death was caused by complications related to pneumonia mixed with cardiac and vascular disease. Today, dignitaries and loved ones of the former Vice President have gathered in Washington to bid farewell to one of the United States’ most prominent political figures.
Dick Cheney was the former vice president who served during both of President George W. Bush’s terms. He also served as Secretary of Defense under President George H.W. Bush and as Chief of Staff to President Gerald Ford.
Dick Cheney was well known for his part in being the architect of the war on terror in the Middle East. He was a major supporter of increased security and surveillance after the attacks on September 11th.
Clinton wrote the following to Cheney’s wife: “Though we often disagreed, I always respected his dedication to our country and his unwavering sense of duty. My thoughts are with Lynne and the Cheney family,”.
While many famous political figures and dignitaries are expected to be present at the funeral, the current President of the United States, Donald Trump, is not expected to attend. Before his death, Dick Cheney was a vocal critic of Donald Trump and would most likely not be welcome at the service.
There has been no formal announcement regarding what will be done with the former Vice President’s remains; however, Cheney wrote in a 2013 memoir that if he were to die, he would like to have his body cremated and the ashes returned to his home state of Wyoming.
Dick Cheney was a great influence on the United States as we know it today, and may he rest in peace.
