Why Hell’s Kitchen is the Greatest TV Show of All Time

Nothing like hearing a Scottish chef scream in your ear and calling you an idiot after you undercook a platter of fish that is about to be served to a family of four—or the same chef telling you to piss off after you make a costly mistake that causes the kitchen to go into shambles, right?

Gordon Ramsay is a household name in both the culinary and entertainment industries, and his expertise and skill in the kitchen have granted him several opportunities over the years. He uses his knowledge and proficiency to train other aspiring chefs to perform well under pressure in the kitchen.

Which leads us to the hit television show Hell’s Kitchen, a show that features a number of chefs who are looking to showcase their cooking skills on full display while dealing with the pressures of a fast-paced, and at times, dysfunctional kitchen crew. Members are split into two teams where they compete by serving several different dishes to guests. The team that performs the best will survive another week while the team that falls short in the competition must vote on a chef to send home. The drama is quite intense, and the teammates generally fail to be on the same page with one another. Their inability to work cohesively together highly impacts their performance and creates a chaotic environment within the kitchen that makes success hard to achieve.

The show has seen it all. Literally. From a contestant having a heart attack, to a woman cutting her finger, it seems like Hell’s Kitchen has experienced every sort of tragedy that one could imagine transpiring in a kitchen. The dysfunction between teammates has gotten so bad at times that members have nearly resorted to physical violence before being separated by the other teammates. While this sort of chaos is undesirable to many, it’s absolute TV gold. I mean, there couldn’t be anything better than sitting back with a bowl of popcorn watching two hotheaded contestants scream at each other over something absolutely ridiculous.

And as the competition heats up, it’s always interesting to see which contestants step up to the plate and which contestants crumble under the pressure.

The real pleasure, however, is seeing the iconic Gordon Ramsey fired up. Whoever said his kitchen was not for the weak was surely not joking around. Ramsey has been known for his brutal, and sometimes hilarious, insults towards competitors, making them feel incredibly silly or stupid. While most people manage to take his bluntness on the chin, some people fire back at the popular chef before being shouted at to “get the hell out of the kitchen”.

Overall, the show is a major success, and its ability to incorporate drama and cooking into one platform make it such a great watch. Watching the contestants grow and improve from their beginning days is always a great way to track the progress of each person featured in the show, and the absolute insanity that the show offers keeps viewers engaged and tuned in to every episode.
