US-Iran Ceasefire Once Again In Jeopardy

The conflict between Iran and the United States has been on a tense halt thanks to the ongoing ceasefire. Unfortunately, talks between the two nations have once again deteriorated, and the long-fought ceasefire is once again inches away from being called off. According to Al-Jazeera, while there are many reasons for the latest talks being stringent, one of the largest factors is social media.

Both countries’ administrations are no strangers to using social media to defend and accuse the other side in the public eye. However, especially now, the trust needed for these talks to go well is absent. Many lay the blame solely on the Trump administration for only offering threats instead of real solutions. Trump’s past social media posts, particularly the ones threatening to wipe Iran off the map, did him no favors to the public and the Iranian government.

Additionally, the constant strikes against Lebanon perpetuated by longtime US ally Israel have made these ceasefire talks even worse. It comes at a time when many US allies are slowly but surely pulling away from the country. The trust and confidence in the US leadership has been broken due to how unpredictably the Trump administration has been acting.

At home, the ongoing war with Iran continues to be unpopular despite how far the Trump administration is willing to go to continue this war. If this conflict resumes and continues to stretch on into the future, the administration’s popularity will continue to plummet. The effects of this war have been felt globally, and it will only get worse until it ends.
