The EBT Requirements are Getting Ridiculous

With food prices rising because of inflation, even with a full-time job it’s hard to afford food without the help of EBT. Last year at one point nobody was getting any and millions of Americans suffered. Nobody wants to have to go to a food pantry because they can’t afford food. I’ve been in the situation where I couldn’t afford food but I made too much to get EBT and it was a hassle having to use cash to pay for necessities.

Now the requirement for anyone unless you are disabled you have to work whether it’s paid or not , and in this day and age there are no jobs and if there are, it’s fast food, gas stations or hotels and those do not pay enough to feed a family, especially a family with children. A single mother can’t feed her children, especially if they are not school aged, if she has to work to be able to get accepted for EBT and has no other income.

If you want to prove you are disabled you have to get a doctor’s note and even that sometimes doesn’t work. Disability or SSI is almost impossible to get on unless you have a missing limb or something and even with several medical conditions, I was not approved.

Even if you get approved, they can take 30 days to process your application, which when you are desperate for food, is a long wait. I applied not too long ago and they approved it on the very last day they had to. I consider that lazy and unfair to the people starving. People rely on these benefits and it’s almost like you have to be homeless, disabled, and have no job to be able to be accepted.

Hundreds of Americans suffer from being homeless and having nothing to eat, and I feel sad for them because if they don’t have a place to live then they can’t apply. If we want to end world hunger, then we need to stop food waste and feed the hungry, only then will the world be better place to live.
