Over 2025 and 2026 the FDA has lost millions of dollars in their budget and thousands of employees in a move to cut costs thanks to Robert F. Kennedy and the Trump Administration. Thanks to these budget cuts there are now significantly fewer people checking the quality of the food we eat every day, resulting in numerous food recalls.
Starting around July 17th, 2026, there was a big recall on Taylor Farm’s lettuce due to Cyclospora contamination, the lettuce used in Taco Bell tacos, among other fast-food products. This was the beginning of many food items getting recalled due to contamination: 1.6 million eggs for salmonella contamination, sourdough bread, guacamole, white rice, chocolate milk, and more, with the most recent recall of broccoli sprouts on September 11th, 2026.
It’s become a recurring issue over the past few months with no plans of stopping. People like my family have stopped caring about the fact that their food could be contaminated at any time. It’s become a fact of life because no citizen can change it on their own. I don’t know why the world advances towards a future that’s a slightly worse version of the present every day. The Trump Administration is so focused on getting oil from the Middle East that they’re taking funds away from the organizations that keep American citizens’ quality of life in check.
We’re already eating food with preservatives banned in the EU due to health concerns; now we regularly have food recalled due to parasitic contamination. No wonder people think our food and portions are a one-way ticket to a heart attack.
The Trump Administration continues to pursue oil thinking it’ll magically fix the economy while taking money away from the people who work towards keeping the country safe and educated. I hope whoever the next president is will clean up the damage the Trump Administration has caused, hopefully restoring the FDA to its former glory and other systems like the education system that desperately need funds instead of chasing oil.
