UMusic Shop NY Celebrates The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds 60th Anniversary With A Pop-Up

A limited-time event is heading its way to New York City in celebration of a particular anniversary for the famous music band The Beach Boys. UMusic Shop NY is hosting a pop-up event in celebration of the 60th anniversary of The Beach Boys’ 1966 album Pet Sounds.

Released in May 1966 by Capitol Records, Pet Sounds is the Beach Boys’ eleventh studio album. The album is considered revolutionary and influential for music production because of its

credited introduction of the use of novel orchestration techniques, structural harmonies, and the use of the studio as a music compositional tool. Additionally, it helped push popular music and albums to be recognised as an art form and helped popularize the use of the synthesizer.

While the initial sales were disappointing, the album was eventually certified platinum in the year 2000. Since its release, the album has been recognized as one of the greatest albums of all time, featured high on multiple Top Album lists for The Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, VH1, and more.

The limited-time, two-day event will be held at the 2 Pennsylvania Plaza location, which will be sporting a reimagined design that feels true to the Beach Boys. Visitors can expect exclusive and limited-edition apparel, accessories, zoetrope, vinylphyle, and posters free with purchase.

Those who are hardcore Beach Boys fans or who are just curious should head over to the event when it opens Friday, May 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM EST at 2 Pennsylvania Plaza.
