When it comes to adult animation, few can keep my adhd brain attentive and keep me interested. I’ve seen Family Guy and all the spinoffs as well as a few others from the 90s, but out of all of them, Bob’s Burgers has kept my interest. I get excited for new episodes and have seen every episode like 100 times.
The story is about a man named Bob, his wife Linda, and their three children, Tina, Gene, and Louise. They run a burger restaurant, and tons of side characters also make it feel more real. What sets it above all the other cartoons, like Family Guy or The Simpsons, is that things that happen to them could happen in real life.
They are a struggling family, and even though they make amazing food, it’s just not as popular as they would want. They go through real life problems like power going out, gas going out, having to replace appliances, repairs, and just normal things that would happen to a small mom and pop shop.
Tina, who is 13 is an 8th grader who is a bit boy crazy, and goes through normal teenager things like crushes and school dances. Gene, who is 11, and a huge mama’s boy, loves music and is not quite into girls yet, but he does make a lot of boy jokes, which usually has Bob reply with, “Gene.” As for Louise, who is 9, she is beyond her age, she is sarcastic, sassy, and smart. She favors her dad a little bit more and like most 9 year olds, loves halloween, and hates the dentist.
The family is just so loveable and relatable, and the jokes are so spot on. The side characters too are believable and even there are so that are very hateable, it makes sense because that’s how it is in the real world. Like there are bullies, love interests, and rivals. Each episode seems like it could happen in real life. Even the really weird ones, like dragging a character through the snow on a inflatable raft or cooking a turkey outside with a makeshift firesplit. Every episode makes me happy, and makes me want more, and can’t wait for new seasons. The best cartoon family out there!
