The Future Isn’t Dystopian or Utopian—It’s Just Uneven

Nowadays, when we think of the future, half of us think the world will break, and AI will take over, and half of us think that it’s going to be great, and we will live happily, everything will have a cure, and we will basically be immortal. To me, however, it’s not Dystopian, and it’s not Utopian; it’s just completely uneven.

Unfortunately, even if the future looks like the show Futurama, we will still have people who can’t afford things or have a cool spaceship, and jobs will still be hard to find. And if the future is like Wall-E, with AI taking over, we won’t be much different than we are now, only we won’t have to leave our seats to use the bathroom, and the remote would be built in. That is only if we don’t destroy ourselves as we slowly destroy the planet.

Either way, it just feels like not a good deal; it feels like the bad outweighs the good, and we just have no chance of survival. As much as I love my dystopian future books, I would not want to live in any of them. We kinda live like Hunger Games. Some countries are rich, some poor. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start killing off the “weak”, considering our history, I don’t put us above doing it again.

Although I don’t think any of this will be happening in my lifetime, it’s interesting to think about and ponder. I think there will be people who will know how to survive the future, though- maybe not in this generation/decade, but the children of this generation will be the geniuses of the future. The future is scary, but anything can happen. One day we can be at war, and another day, it stops.

I do hope I am alive when they find a cure for cancer, and see flying cars would be cool. Whatever the future holds, we should be doing our best to keep it safe and sound.
