Artist of the Month for September 2026
Olivia Isabel Rodrigo is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Born in n Murrieta, California, Rodrigo developed an interest in music at a young age, taking singing lessons at age five and learning piano by age nine. As she grew, Rodrigo would learn other instruments like guitar and start writing her own songs.
Rodrigo’s career would begin through acting, appearing on commercials as a child before making her official debut at age 12 on the direct-to-video film An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success in 2015. Rodrigo would do more projects on the Disney Channel, including the 2016 sitcom Bizaardvark. However, her biggest success, which would lead her to be known to the mainstream, would be her role in the 2019 Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
In 2020, Rodrigo would begin her solo music career, signing on with Geffen Records, and a year later, she would release her debut single, “Drivers License”, co-written with producer Dan Nigro. Drivers License broke records, including Spotify’s most daily streams ever for a non-holiday song twice. By the seventh day of its release, the song garnered over 80 million streams. Shortly afterward, she’d release her debut album Sour that same year, with its lead single topping the US Billboard 200. Singles from her following two albums, Guts and You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love (2026), would debut at the top of the chart as well.
Rodrigo has garnered numerous awards, including three Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, five iHeartRadio Music Awards, and four People’s Choice Awards, and much more. Outside of music, Rodrigo has an extensive career in activism, supporting feminist movements, causes focused on women’s health, and more.
