I’ve mostly lived in places where there was public transportation that got you to where you needed to go. Most of those places were university cities and decently bigger than where I live now. The issues that I had to deal with were buses being late, not having bus fare or rude people on the buses. Those are all to be expected.
We all know that buses can’t always be on time, especially in places like NYC, and sometimes it can be as simple as the car breaking down or there was an accident and the bus had no choice but to just sit there. I’ve been on buses that broke down and we all had to transfer to another bus.
But what if you live in a small town where there is no public transportation unless you call like three days in advance and even then it’s not free or cheap and that is the part that isn’t fair. Not everyone drives, including me, and when you have no other option what do you do?
Public transportation should be available in all places no matter the size. It’s not just an issue for big cities like NYC or LA, people everywhere need to be able to get where they need to go. For where I live I would expand it out of town because I have doctors in other small towns surrounding mine. I would make it cheap, and provide bus passes for people who have jobs.
Not only would everyone benefit from a bus system in smaller cities but some people have car issues, like car repairs, needing gas, and the simple fact that not everyone has a license or just has other issues that prevents them from driving, such as disabilities or other health issues.
If everyone had access to the bus system, I think that would help people get jobs, move, get their shopping done, and not have to rely on others to take them places because that is always a hassle and you feel guilty for even asking. Public transportation needs to be a priority over what the government spends their city’s money on!
