New Ticket Prices Hit NYC Ferry

New York City residents are waking up to higher Ferry ticket prices after an increase took place earlier today. This comes after NYC’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) board voted for a fare hike last month and after record-high ferry ridership this past June. In the week between June 15 and June 21, the NYC Ferry saw a record of more than 260,000 boardings, according to WordBoat.

Currently, a one-way ticket costs $5, up from its former $4.50 price. The 10-Trip pass is now priced at $30, and the Ferry Discount Program is now $1.50. Outside of that, the Unlimited 2-Day NYC Ferry Ticket is now a permanent option and will remain $15.

According to the EDC, the latest price hike was due to rising operating and fuel costs. The last fare hike from EDC Board occurred in 2024, from a $4 one-way ride to $4.50.

Public transportation prices have been a common issue that the Mamdani Administration seeks to address. Despite the increase in fare, the city is continuing to maintain its programs that help keep public transportation affordable for its most vulnerable and financially strained citizens and students, like the Ferry and Student Discount Program, or letting the Staten Island Ferry remain free.

NYC residents and visitors can buy tickets and check schedules through the New York City Ferry Service’s website or mobile app. All tickets will expire 90 days after initial purchase. For options like the Unlimited 2-Day Ferry Ticket, they expire 48 hours after the purchase time.
