The NYRR 2026 New York City Marathon is getting closer, and participants and crowdgoers are in the final days of preparation for the event. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the running event, which made its debut all the way back in September 1970. First centered around Central Park, in recent years, the New York City Marathon’s 26.2-mile route has traveled across the five boroughs.
In 2025, the New York City Marathon broke the record for the largest marathon of all time, previously set by them back in 2024. The 2025 race concluded with 59,000-plus finishers, which included a variety of people of different races, genders, and disabilities.
The 2026 marathon is set to take place on Sunday, November 1st at 8 AM EST. With around 60,000 runners expected to attend, they will travel a route through the five boroughs and end in Central Park. Before the event, those interested can check out the pre-race Expo, which lasts from October 29 to October 31 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center
The race weekend will kick off with an opening Ceremony presented by United Airlines at the Central Park finish line. There, onlookers can watch the featured Parade of Nations, which showcases nations of runners from across the globe, finishing with a show of fireworks.
For those who won’t be able to attend physically, a live broadcast of the event will be featured locally on ABC7/WABC-TV, nationally with ESPN2 and ESPN Unlimited, and broadcast globally across 160+ countries through ESPN International, Eurosport, Fox Sports, and more.
