Actor Daniel Dae Kim is starring on Broadway’s “Yellow Face”

Actor Daniel Dae Kim is now making his mark on Broadway; the Lost and Hawaii Five-o star is appearing in David Henry Hwang’s play “Yellow Face”.

“Yellow Face” was first shown in 2007 by Center Theater Group in Los Angeles, the play revolved around a playwright known as DHH who protested the casting of a non-Asian actor Jonathan Pryce as a Vietnamese character in “Miss Saigon”. When this protest is ignored, he resorts to writing his own play, “Face Value”, about the Miss Saigon controversy, and casts an actor that he believes to be part Caucasian and part Asia. Only to discover that the actor is fully Caucasian, as per Broadway News.

“Yellow Face” is an Obie Award-winning production scheduled to be directed by Tony Award Nominee director Leigh Silverman. “Yellow Face” will be staged by The Roundabout Theater Company (renamed Todd Haimes Theater after the company’s deceased CEO and former artistic director) who has recently announced the premiere of two other award-winning Broadway productions in addition to Yellow Face: “English” and “The Pirates of Penzance”, respectively.

The company’s Interim Artistic Director, Scott Ellis, said in a statement: “I believe this line-up is one that he (Todd Haimes) would have been proud of, as we bring together a group of exceptional artists to stage these works—both classic and new”, as indicated by The Daily Beast.

Daniel Dae Kim is a phenomenal actor who first made his debut on Broadway in the 2017 play “The King and I”, starring as King Siam. He is also starring as the antagonist fire lord “Ozai”,  in Netflix’s live-action drama, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” which is scheduled to premiere in February of this year.
