A new Amazon supermarket has recently opened in northern New Jersey. The Amazon Fresh store, located in Lodi, New Jersey, is the third physical Amazon Fresh store in the state, following locations in Paramus and Eatontown.
According to NJBiz, the Lodi location officially opened its doors to customers on Thursday, August 22. The Amazon Fresh supermarket represents Amazon’s latest effort to expand its presence in the grocery industry. The store offers fresh produce, meats, and prepared meals from both local and national brands. In addition, Amazon Fresh provides customers with a wide selection of international foods and various other products.
Earlier Amazon Fresh stores featured cashless ‘Just Walk Out’ checkouts, but the company discontinued this technology in April 2024, replacing it with Dash Carts. These carts automatically track and tally items as customers shop, allowing them to see their total balance in real-time and avoid the hassle of checkout lines.
“Amazon already has a large online grocery business with millions of products available for fast delivery, but to meet all grocery needs, we must offer customers great selection, value, and convenience—not just online, but also in physical stores,” an Amazon representative stated.
“At Amazon, our goal is to deliver the best selection, value, and convenience to customers, whether they shop in-store or online. We aim to save our diverse customer base time and money so they can focus on what matters most.”
Amazon noted that Amazon Fresh customers can save “up to 30 percent on 4,000 weekly rotating grocery items” by shopping in-store and online. Prime members are also eligible for Prime Savings, offering additional discounts on grocery items.
While it’s unclear whether more locations will open in New Jersey, Amazon expects future expansion based on public response. Currently, Northern California is the most recent region to welcome a new Amazon Fresh location.
